The Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC countries participates at the IEC South Africa Conference & Exhibition on e-Voting Technologies in South Africa, 1Oth— 12th March 2025. Cape Town, South Africa.

The Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC countries represented by the Vice Executive Committee of the ECF SADC, also Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission of Lesotho Mr Mphasa Mokhochane, supported by the Executive Secretary of the ECF-SADC, are attending the Electoral Commission of South Africa‘s Conference on Electronic Voting Technologies in South Africa . Other EMBs in the SADC region, the Electoral Commission of Namibia and the National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) of the DRC have also been invited to enable IEC South Africa draw lessons regarding the potential benefits and/or challenges to introduce and implement electronic voting systems.

This Conference is part of extensive research work conducted by the Electoral Commission of South Africa, assessing current debates and global experiences in e-Voting technologies, and drawing lessons from other countries that have implemented eVoting systems. The Conference launched a Policy Discussion Document on Exploring the Implementation of Electronic Voting in South Africa, and brought together the Electoral Commission, its partners and stakeholders to engage in policy discussions with government policy makers, political leaders, e-voting practitioners and technology suppliers on the future, feasibility and sustainability of introducing electronic voting in South Africa. The Electoral Commission envisions the development of a comprehensive policy discussion document specifically a green paper on electronic voting (e-voting), intended to stimulate thoughtful deliberations and provide a clear framework for evaluating the country’s policy direction and available options regarding the implementation of e-voting.
