Upon receipt of an invitation from the Government of Botswana on 20th September, 2024, the ECF – SADC, in line with its mandate of strengthening cooperation amongst Electoral Commissions in the SADC region, deployed observer mission to the 30th October, 2024 General Elections.
The mission was led by the Chairperson of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the United Republic of Tanzania Honorable Justice Jacobs C. M. Mwambegele. The Deputy Mission leader was Ms Janet Love who is the Vice Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa.
The mission is composed of twenty-eight (28) short term observers drawn from ten (10) ECF – SADC member commissions, namely electoral commissions of Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, South-Africa, Tanzania, Zanzibar and Zimbabwe. The mission period was 22nd October to 2nd November, 2024.
This Preliminary Report covers the mission’s observation of the Pre-Election process, Voting Day and Counting. The Final Report will cover Post- Election Processes and other election related developments.
