At the invitation by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), (a member of this Forum) the Forum deployed a short-term Election Observer Mission (EOM) to the General Election of Republic of Malawi held on 16th September 2025. The Mission was led by Mr. Justice Barnabas Nyamadzabo, the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission of Botswana, deputized by Mr Mphasa Mokhochane, Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission of Lesotho. The Mission had 24 members from nine (9) electoral commissions namely- CNE Angola, CENI Democratic Republic of Congo, IEC-Botswana, IEC Lesotho, EBC- Eswatini, EC Namibia, EC Zambia, IEC South Africa, ECZ- Zimbabwe.
The ECF-SADC short term Election Observer Mission was in Malawi from 7th September 2025 and will be leaving Malawi on 19th September 2025. Teams were deployed from 14th September 2025 to cover the Central and Southern regions. They all made pre-poll visits to their assigned areas to establish the readiness of MEC in the pre-election period, election day and the post-election processes. The teams remained in the field until 17th September 2025.
