The Electoral Commissions of the SADC countries (ECF-SADC) were amongst the Election Management Bodies from across Africa, deployed by the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES) to peer learning and support missions to Djibouti and Benin. The deployment of these peer learning and exchange initiative, taking place along side national elections in these countries, brings together Election Management Bodies to exchange lessons and experiences as peers on different electoral contexts in Africa. The Missions are facilitated by ECES in collaboration with the African Union Commission and the Association of African Electoral Authorities (AAEA), an EMB network hosted by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

Amongst the participating EMBs from the SADC region were representatives from electoral commissions of Malawi, Namibia, Lesotho, Angola, and Mozambique.

In the period 5-8 May 2026, the ECF-SADC as invited by ECES, will similarly be represented by some member commissions official to participate at a Peer Learning Mission within the framework of Mattei Plan in Rome Italy. The Mattei Plan brings together representatives from 18 countries from various regions to facilitate exchanges with Italian institutions involved in electoral processes. The Mattei Plan is a strategic initiative by Italy to help Africa grow and prosper.

All the Peer learning Missions are implemented by ECES, jointly with the African Union Commission and are made possible by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation under the ECES PRO Electoral integrity project.
