The Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC countries represented by the Executive Committee of the ECF SADC, also Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa Mr Mosotho Moepya, supported by Commissioner Glen Mashinini of IEC South Africa and the Executive Secretary of the ECF-SADC Secretariat were amongst the esteemed participants at the high-level dialogue on “Re-imagining Democracy in Africa: Comparative Experiences from the Global South”  The dialogue reflected on the challenges of advancing democratic governance in the global south and it drew critical lessons for Africa’s democratic consolidation pathways.

The dialogue was hosted by International IDEA was part of the activities by International IDEA to celebrate its 30 Years of Supporting Democracy Worldwide. The event was co hosted by African Union, Open Society Foundations, European Union and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa.

The event had over 200 diverse participants from the global south, including esteemed democracy and governance experts, senior government officials, representatives from civil society, think tanks, and the private sector. Other participants included regional organisations and key national institutions, such as Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs), the judiciary, and parliaments.

One of the major outcomes of the Dialogue include Actionable Policy recommendations towards enhancing legal frameworks, institutional arrangements and processes to advance democratic governance in Africa.
